About SYZ

Artificial intelligence is a field of science that aims to give machines the ability to reason, use past knowledge, plan, learn, communicate, perceive and manipulate objects, and move from one place to another.

Although significant progress has been made in the field of artificial intelligence today, the level of research is still insufficient. However, impressive developments in the world of information technology and the resulting ability to process large amounts of data have led to an intense impact of artificial intelligence applications on all scientific fields and industrial sectors in recent years. This widespread impact has made it possible to develop, use and disseminate new artificial intelligence techniques in many areas, and strategies have been developed to achieve this.

The main methods of artificial intelligence are:

  • Machine Learning
  • Deep Learning
  • Optimization
  • Computer Vision
  • Robotics
  • Statistics
  • Neuro-science

Healthcare is one of the areas that artificial intelligence is currently impacting and will continue to impact in the near future. Recently, with the increase in scientific research on artificial intelligence applications in healthcare, almost all global big data and artificial intelligence companies have focused on the medical sector. While image processing applications are the driving force behind the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare, depending on various medical data sources, artificial intelligence has application opportunities in many medical fields. In particular, with the increasing use of electronic patient data, the use of AI in its analysis is growing, enabling the development of important applications such as disease diagnosis prediction, AI-assisted surgery, drug development, personalised treatment, gene editing capability, decision support systems, and rehospitalisation prediction.

Based on this, a Center for AI Research and Application in Healthcare has recently been established at our university and is in the process of being organised. Integration with other relevant application and research centres within our university is also given importance.

Our center aims to use artificial intelligence methods to transform data obtained in the healthcare field into meaningful information for local, national, and international decision-makers. In addition to this, the objectives of our center can be summarized as follows:

  • To conduct joint research with universities, public institutions, and industrial organizations for artificial intelligence research in healthcare and to establish and operate necessary application and research laboratories.

  • To develop and prepare new technologies for the market, commercialize and export them, and develop pilot studies in this field by producing prototypes of new ideas through multi-disciplinary studies.

  • To communicate and collaborate with similar centers at the national and international level and organize courses, seminars, congresses, and symposiums.

To achieve our national goals in this field and to provide a collaborative working environment, many scientific activities are being planned under the leadership of our centers:

  • The 3nd International Congress on Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare to be held online,
  • The launch of the journal named "Artificial Intelligence Theory and Applications",
  • Increasing collaborations with the International Association for Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare,
  • Organizing mini workshops at the local and national levels to increase the visibility of the center and bring together academics working in this field.
